Yukio Mishima, Japan’s most famous writer, spends his last day leading a small private army into a military headquarters in Tokyo. Interwoven with that final day are his life story, in black and white, and three of his novels, staged as dazzling, stylised colour sets by Eiko Ishioka. Paul Schrader’s portrait of an artist obsessed with beauty, discipline and death.
