Buying
Is every piece one of a kind?
Yes. Unless a listing says otherwise, you're buying the exact piece in the photos, and once it's gone, it's gone. If you've had your eye on something, don't wait.
How do you describe condition?
Every listing has a condition grade plus short notes on folds, pinholes, tears or restoration. The photos show the actual piece. Want a closer look at a corner or the back? Email us and we'll send extra photos before you buy.
I'm looking for a specific title. Can you help?
Send us your wanted list at info@vintagehorror.ca. New stock comes in constantly, and we'll let you know if something on your list turns up. Join our email list too, since subscribers see new arrivals first.
Do you sell anywhere else?
Yes. We run live auctions on Whatnot with first looks and deals you won't find on the site. Follow us there so you don't miss the next show.
Formats & sizes
What's the difference between folded and rolled?
Until the 1980s, most theatrical posters were folded by the studio before being sent to cinemas, so fold lines are normal on vintage posters. Rolled posters were never folded. Linen-backed posters have been professionally mounted and flattened, and always ship rolled. Use the By type menu to shop each one.
What size is my poster?
The exact size is in every listing. Common formats, approximately:
- US one sheet: 27 × 41 in
- US half sheet: 22 × 28 in · Insert: 14 × 36 in
- UK quad: 30 × 40 in
- Italian 2-foglio: 39 × 55 in · 4-foglio: 55 × 79 in
- French grande: 47 × 63 in
- Japanese B2: 20 × 29 in · Chirashi (B5): 7 × 10 in
- Lobby card: 11 × 14 in
What is a chirashi?
A chirashi (チラシ) is a Japanese B5 flyer, about 7 × 10 in, handed out in cinemas to promote upcoming films. They often feature artwork unique to the Japanese release, and they're one of the most affordable ways to start a horror wall.
What are lobby cards?
Lobby cards are 11 × 14 in cards, usually printed in sets of eight, that cinemas displayed in the lobby to show scenes from the film. We sell single cards and sets.
Linen backing & restoration
What is linen backing?
It's the archival way to preserve and display a poster. The poster is mounted onto acid-free tissue and canvas with a reversible wheat-starch paste, which flattens folds, stabilises the paper and makes it ready to frame. Learn more about our linen backing.
Can you linen-back a poster I already own?
Yes, we do it in-house. Send us photos of the front, back and any damage, and we'll get back to you with a free estimate.
Can I get a poster from the shop linen-backed?
Yes. Email us with the title before or after you buy and we'll quote you for backing it before it ships.
