A meteor shower blinds most of the world's population and awakens carnivorous, mobile plants called triffids, which begin preying on the helpless survivors. A sailor who escaped the blindness teams up with a young girl to survive, while separately, a scientist and his wife race to discover the plants' one weakness. Based on John Wyndham's novel, a foundational entry in the "cozy catastrophe" strain of British science fiction.
